I love this kind of approach. We once set off on a "trip" around the world. The first stop was Hawaii. We included a themed party for our homeschool friends. Leg 2 was on a pirate ship - we had a pirate party! Leg 3 was Japan - we made sushi with our friends. Maybe you notice a theme here!

We homeschool in Hawaii and the books you used are a couple that I really like. In fact the illustrator of A is For Aloha, Tammy Yee, came and did a visit with out homeschool group last year.
You might also look for Swimming with Humuhumu, Winter is for Whales, or Flight of the Golden Plover. Another great resource is the state tourism office.
I've collected a lot of links to education resources on lots of Hawaii related topics on my blog. We've really loved learning about Hawaii. Sounds like you did too.
