Free Homeschool Number Line Template

number_line_sample

One of the most popular posts on this blog was also the simplest. A while ago I posted a free lesson plan template which many homeschooling internet denizens seem to be finding and downloading (and hopefully using!).  So, in that same tradition, I’m making available a simple number line template that I created for my wife and her homeschooling efforts.   I hope you also find this to be useful.  It can be downloaded as a PDF file by clicking here.

As an added bonus, I thought our readers would appreciate a link to this very helpful math web siteThe Math Worksheet Site, which is very useful for creating fast worksheets when teaching mathematics to your homeschooled children.

Happy homeschooling!

A Great February for South Florida Homeschool Families

This is a big week for many South Florida homeschooling families and it is news worth sharing. According to their web site, the Broward Christian Homeschoolers (BCH) is has recently announced that Broward County Mayor Stacy Ritter, Fort Lauderdale Mayor James Naugle, and the city of Hollywood Mayor Peter Bober, are officially recognizing homeschooling families in South Florida.
This Thursday (February 26, 2009) will be “Homeschool Day in Broward County” and this whole upcoming week (February 22-28, 2009) will be “Homeschool Week in Fort Lauderdale, Florida”.

For more information regarding these homeschool events, check out the BCH web site.

On the Lighter Side – Brian Regan

This post has nothing to do with homeschooling, but we assume that if you’re often as busy with educating your children and managing the rest of your life as we are, you need a good laugh every once and a while. My wife and I stumbled across the comedy of Brian Regan a few months ago while flipping through channels late one Friday night. We’ve been big fans ever since.  If you’ve never heard of Brian Regan (not “Reagan”), we definitely recommend his comedic work.  He’s outrageously funny, uses hilarious facial expressions, provides unique perspectives on common situations and is a very clean humorist.  For the most part, his language is suitable for children (though now and then he’ll preface a joke with a phrase like, “What the hell is up with…”, but I think that is about the extent of his use of vulgarity).

For a sample of his material, check out his classic “Emergency Room” stand up routine found in this YouTube video.

Pretty funny, right? Be sure to check out more of his stuff by buying or renting his DVDs. I think you’ll find them worth the time and expense.  We hope you don’t hurt yourself while laughing. Enjoy!
